Consilium CEO Philip Isell Lind af Hageby featured in Di Weekend

From business growth to Formula 1 dreams, art and a 23-year break from golf

Consilium Safety Group CEO Philip Isell Lind af Hageby is featured in a recent Di Weekend interview by Swedish business newspaper Dagens industri.

The conversation touches on Consilium’s strong development in recent years, including the company’s growth from SEK 1.5 billion to SEK 3 billion in revenue during Philip’s four years as CEO, as well as the company’s focus on areas where it has the strongest competitive position.

But the interview also offers a more personal introduction to the person behind the CEO title.

Philip talks about growing up with an early drive to earn his own money, including getting up at 5:30 on Saturday mornings as a seven-year-old to sell things at a flea market in Simrishamn, Sweden. He also shares how studying international economics changed the direction of his life. Despite attending a golf high school and being a promising player, he chose to focus on his studies instead and has not played golf for 23 years.

There are also some less expected sides of Philip in the interview. If he had to choose another career, he would like to be a Formula 1 driver for Mercedes, and one of the things highest on his bucket list is to attend every Formula 1 race during an entire season. And if Consilium were ever made into a film, Philip says the animated character Johnny Bravo would be the obvious choice to play him – mainly because, according to his brother, they share the same upside-down-cone physique.

He talks about his interest in art, including a painting by Swedish artist Gottfrid Kallstenius that he still regrets not buying, and reveals that one of his hidden talents is imitating dialects.

And when asked what he would do if handed SEK 10 million to invest immediately? Part of it would go towards a dream of a house in the French countryside, and the rest towards increasing his investment in Consilium.
