The MSC.550(108) and MSC.555(108) amendments introduce updated fire safety requirements for RoRo passenger vessels, with an increased focus on fire detection, monitoring and firefighting in vehicle and RoRo spaces.
New RoRo passenger vessels with a keel laid on or after 1 January 2026 must comply with the updated SOLAS Chapter II-2 and FSS Code requirements. Existing vessels built before 1 January 2026 must be upgraded no later than their first survey on or after 1 January 2028.
Key changes include mandatory smoke and heat detection in vehicle, special category and RoRo spaces, new fire detection requirements for weather decks used for vehicles, and requirements for video monitoring to support continuous monitoring and rapid identification of fire locations.
The amendments also introduce revised detector spacing requirements. Consilium supports both retrofit and newbuild projects with approved fire detection and video monitoring solutions designed to meet the updated requirements.
